• Nexus Vortex Load Order

Dec 09, 2018  So I recently got a new PC and as such had to re-download all of SAMs many little working parts. However, whereas on my last PC I used Nexus Mod Manager to organize everything, on this one Im using Vortex. I have everything downloaded and activated. The Load Order Optimisation Tool (LOOT) can help with that, by providing automated load order sorting that's simple to use and fully customisable. While sorting, LOOT checks for load order errors (such as incompatibilities and missing requirements) and notifies you of any issues that it detects. I just want to take a moment and praise what has come from Vortex. I am not an alpha user, but I do have an acquaintance who got through. One thing he is rather upset about is the fact he can't rearrange his load order.

However, I think that is smart on the part of the Vortex Dev Team. Yes, it is nice to be able to rearrange your load order at your own will, especially when LOOT or BOSS doesn't recognize an issue. But it seems, that an overlooked thing in LOOT is the fact that you can set rules to ensure where the 'unrecognized plugin' can be sorted, and now we see it in Vortex.

I think it's better for long term modding as every time a load order is sorted, unrecognized plugins will be sorted away and you will have to drag them in place. But through setting rules, this will save time for the mod user for not having to go back to each unrecognized plugin every time the load order is sorted.

I think the solution currently in play is better, although it is different to what I think most people are used too.

I keep seeing topic after topic of Manual Load Ordering not being a part of Vortex.

I have been using Vortex for a couple days now and I have to tell you that Manual Load Ordering is there. It's just handled differently.

In Vortex to Manually change your load order;

grab the dependencies icon of the esp you want to move up or down, drag it to the esp you want to load it after. Release the icon.

a window will pop up giving you the rule you want to apply to the esp you moved.

You can either confirm it or cancel it and start over. If you confirm it, the rule will be applied and no matter how many times you run LOOT, that esp will not change positions.

If you want to remove that rule from the esp, it is a two click process, click the dependencies icon, click the (-) sign for the rule that was applied.

The nice thing is, you can set rules that wont change when running LOOT, but also, you can set global values for any esp to load higher or lower in the list.

These two forms of load ordering stack, giving you more control over plugins than you had with NMM.

Global values that are higher load lower in the load order (100) loads after (0), (-100) would load high in the load order.

Vortex is fast and easy once you get through the learning curve.

The one thing not YET available in Vortex is individual file conflict resolutions, meaning you can not cherry pick the files from one mod to over ride the files of another mod.

I did read where Tannin stated that was on the ToDo list.
